LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, USA  Harkening back to a day when merchants sold their goods in outdoor plazas and courtyards, The Grove at Farmer’s Market is a retail and entertainment complex in Los Angeles’ Fairfax District. The development, owned and operated by Caruso Affiliated, is on an old orchard and nursery. The Grove has been a destination and tourist shopping haven since its opening in 2002. KMD provided master plan services for the 575,000 SF development, which includes anchor department stores (Nordstrom’s and Crate & Barrel), specialty shops, restaurants, a multiplex cinema, and a large center park highlighted by a water feature. Many of the store fronts are of Art Deco-style, reminiscent of the early to mid-1900s.
