PANAMA CITY, PANAMA Conceptual design for a new 500-bed academic medical center for children and women on the city’s waterfront parkway. Two independent towers of 250 beds each are united by bridges as well as by sharing combined support and administrative services, a central plant and subterranean parking. The smaller Maternity Hospital features gently curving facades in deference to its principal users, mothers and newborns. Plants are incorporated into the facades and rooftops, and an extension of the park across the front also serves to soften the building.
